California State University, Northridge is driven by an enduring belief that educational opportunity, inclusion, and excellence can extend the promise of higher education to every successive generation. With a vibrant and diverse student body of over 35,000, CSUN is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) with a deep commitment to equity, access, and student success. The campus serves a large commuter population, a significant share of first-generation college students, and learners from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, all united by a common pursuit of knowledge and a better future. CSUN's mission centers on empowering students to succeed academically, professionally, and personally. The university prioritizes holistic well-being, ensuring students have access to the resources they need not just to enroll, but to persist and graduate with confidence. Its graduates are prepared to be leaders: proficient in technology, committed to democratic values, and dedicated to contributing to a more humane and equitable world. The Women's Research and Resource Center (WRRC) at California State University, Northridge is a campus hub committed to supporting the well-being, equity, and academic success of all students through a holistic, intersectional lens. Rooted in feminist principles and a student-centered approach, the WRRC provides essential resources, advocacy, and a welcoming space where students can access support, community, and care. The center's work is grounded in the understanding that academic success cannot be separated from a student's ability to meet their most fundamental needs. To that end, the WRRC provides food assistance, personal hygiene products, clothing support, and connections to a broad range of campus and community services, all designed to eliminate barriers and help students thrive. Through the WRRC, students at CSUN have access to food assistance programs, campus food pantry resources, emergency financial support and grants, housing resources and referrals, and assistance with public benefits enrollment, including CalFresh. The center also connects students to case management, basic-needs counseling, and referrals to mental health and wellness services, providing a comprehensive safety net that addresses both immediate challenges and long-term stability. The WRRC's approach is intentionally holistic. Staff work alongside students to understand their full range of needs and connect them with the right resources, whether that means navigating a financial aid process, finding housing support, or simply providing a space to breathe, study, and feel supported on a demanding campus day. The WRRC provides food access support through its campus pantry and related programming, ensuring that students experiencing food insecurity have consistent access to nutritious options in a respectful, welcoming environment. Students can visit the pantry regularly to receive groceries and essential items, and the center ensures that these services are delivered with dignity and without stigma. By reducing the financial stress associated with food costs, these resources free students to redirect their energy toward their education and goals. The WRRC at CSUN partners with Student LunchBox to expand and deepen its on-campus food access efforts. Through this collaboration, Student LunchBox integrates distributions directly into the WRRC's service model, supplementing existing pantry resources with additional fresh produce, shelf-stable goods, and essential items throughout the academic year. This partnership strengthens the center's capacity to serve students consistently and equitably — ensuring that those who need support most are never left without it. Together, the WRRC and Student LunchBox reflect a shared commitment to student well-being and academic equity. Students who access these resources report reduced financial stress, improved focus, and a greater sense of belonging, outcomes that directly support persistence and graduation.
