Student LunchBox, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit advancing college success through comprehensive basic needs support, announced renewed support from GoldenTree Asset Management, the organization’s Founding Partner and one of its most significant philanthropic supporters. GoldenTree’s continued investment has helped Student LunchBox strengthen its campus-based food access and basic needs programs across Los Angeles County, ensuring that thousands of college students each month can access the food, groceries, essentials, and stability they need to remain focused on their education.
From the organization’s early years, GoldenTree has helped Student LunchBox build the operational backbone needed to serve students at scale. Its support has advanced food recovery, warehousing, transportation, and mobile markets that bring nutritious groceries and essential goods directly to students on campus. For many students, this support helps reduce the pressure of choosing between groceries, rent, textbooks, transportation, and tuition.
“GoldenTree has been part of Student LunchBox’s story from the beginning,” said Karlen Nurijanyan, Founder and CEO of Student LunchBox. “Their founding support has helped us create the operational foundation needed to serve students consistently. Because of GoldenTree’s partnership, we have been able to keep food moving, expand campus-based access, and show up for students with dignity, care, and reliability.”
GoldenTree’s investment supports the work that happens behind every distribution. Each mobile market depends on food sourcing, warehouse coordination, refrigeration, transportation, volunteer support, campus outreach, and close planning with college basic needs teams. That support is reflected across Student LunchBox’s campus network, including major institutions such as Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and UCLA, where students access nutritious food and essential resources in trusted, accessible campus spaces.
"At UCLA, Student LunchBox is having a profound impact on the lives of our students. This collaboration has aimed to ensure that students have access to basic necessities, helping them focus on their education without the burden of hunger. By addressing these needs, the initiative not only nourishes students physically but also fosters a sense of community and care, making a meaningful impact on their well-being and academic success," says Michelle Cabrera, Essential Support Services Manager, Basic Needs @ Strathmore at UCLA.
"At Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, we are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Student LunchBox and the positive impact this collaboration has had on our students and campus community," states Lawrencia Scott, the executive assistant to the Vice Provost and Student Ombuds. "During a time when grocery prices continue to rise, Student LunchBox has become an important resource in helping address food insecurity by providing access to fresh produce, pantry staples, healthy snacks, and other essential food items. Our students genuinely look forward to Mondays to see what variety of items will be available. The excitement surrounding the distributions has created a strong sense of community on campus, with students spreading the word to classmates and encouraging one another to participate. This partnership has done more than provide food — it has helped relieve stress, support student well-being, and remind our students that their community cares about their success both inside and outside the classroom."
